Who is this Melchizedek?
I wanted to share my notes from a study this morning.....brought me to tears. So amazing!
Melchizedek is mentioned only 12 times in scripture. The first time we see him in is Genesis the 14th chapter.
And Malkitseḏeq [Melchizedek] sovereign [King] of Shalĕm [Salem] brought out bread and wine. Now he was the priest of the Most High Ěl [Elohim;God].
And he blessed him and said, “Blessed be Aḇram of the Most High Ěl [Elohim;God], Possessor of the heavens and earth.
“And blessed be the Most High Ěl [Elohim;God] who has delivered your enemies into your hand.” And he gave him a tenth of all. ~Genesis 14:18-20
The KING of Salem [meaning peace; shalom] and PRIEST of the MOST HIGH! BOTH KING and PRIEST!
Melchizedek greater than Abram [Abraham] and blesses him.
How did he become a priest of El [Elohim;God]?
Why not choose that priesthood right then and there instead of the priesthood of the Levites coming later through the loins of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob?
For this Malkitseḏeq [Melchizedek], sovereign [King] of Shalĕm [Salem], priest of the Most High Elohim [God], who met Aḇraham [Abram] returning from the slaughter of the sovereigns [Kings] and blessed him,
to whom also Aḇraham [Abram] gave a tenth part of all, his name being translated, indeed, first, ‘sovereign [King] of righteousness,’ and then also sovereign [King] of Shalĕm [Salem], that is, ‘sovereign [King] of peace [Shalom],’
without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but having been made like the Son of Elohim [God], remains a priest for all time.~Hebrews 7:1-7
There was a plan from the beginning.......
“See, the days are coming,” declares יהוה, “when I shall raise for Dawiḏ [David] a Branch of righteousness, and a Sovereign [King] shall reign and act wisely, and shall do right-ruling and righteousness in the earth.
“In His days Yehuḏah [Judah] shall be saved, and Yisra’ĕl [Israel] dwell safely. And this is His Name whereby He shall be called: ‘יהוה our Righteousness.’~Jeremiah 23:5-6
So, who was Melchizedek? Who was the 3rd angel that came to talk to Abraham in Genesis 18? Who was the angel that wrestled with Jacob in Genesis 32? Who was the 4th person in the fire in Daniel 3? Who was Captain of the host in Joshua 5 and appears again in Revelation 19?
